Use this checklist to help manage the energy-related aspects of moving into or out of commercial premises. Complete each item as early as possible to help avoid billing issues and unnecessary delays.
On the move date — meter readings
Take final meter readings for electricity on the move date
Take final meter readings for gas on the move date
Photograph all meters, with a timestamp where possible
Record the exact date and time of all readings taken
Note the meter serial numbers printed on each meter
Supply point information
Locate your MPAN (electricity) from existing invoices or the meter
Locate your MPRN (gas) from existing invoices
Identify the current electricity and gas suppliers at the property
Notifications
Notify your current supplier of your move-out date in writing
Notify the existing supplier at your new premises of your move-in date
Notify your landlord or managing agent if appropriate
Documentation to retain
Retain copies of all energy invoices relating to the property
Keep records of all correspondence with suppliers
Keep copies of any lease, licence or occupancy agreements
Store meter reading photographs and records securely
Future energy arrangements
Arrange your future energy requirements for the new premises
Consider whether to review contract options at the new premises
Seek independent commercial support if you are unsure of your options
