Use this checklist to help you prepare for and manage a commercial energy supplier dispute. Having the right documentation in place from the outset can help the process proceed more effectively.
Gather documentation
Gather copies of all relevant electricity and gas invoices
Collect meter readings, including dates and photographs
Locate your energy contract documents and terms and conditions
Retain all emails and written correspondence with the supplier
Gather any other supporting documents relevant to the dispute
Record key information
Note your MPAN (electricity) and MPRN (gas) reference numbers
Record all telephone calls with dates, times and names of representatives
Prepare a clear chronological timeline of events
Note any reference numbers provided by the supplier
Raise the dispute
Submit your complaint in writing to the supplier
Keep a record of the supplier's complaint reference number
Follow up in writing if you do not receive a response within a reasonable period
Keep copies of all correspondence sent and received
If the dispute is not resolved
Consider whether independent commercial support may be helpful
Check whether your business is eligible to use the Energy Ombudsman
Seek independent legal advice if appropriate
